Assistant Compliance Counsel - Washington, DC

Overview:

Exciting opportunity to join the Compliance department of a growing commercial-stage specialty pharmaceutical company in Washington, DC. Make a difference by developing, enhancing and conducting compliance training, drafting and updating policies, reviewing materials and conducting internal monitoring. The Assistant Compliance Counsel will be responsible for assisting the Head of Compliance by performing both key day-to-day functions and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate to assess risk and implement programs to promote integrity and compliance
  • Ensure company compliance with policies, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Assist with updating risks assessment and developing risk mitigation strategies and methods to operationalize compliance
  • Assist with researching, drafting and updating corporate compliance policies and standard operating procedures
  • Conduct role-specific compliance training, update and develop additional training content
  • Stay abreast of promulgation of new laws and regulations, compliance and legal trends/developments and enhance business practices
  • Work with outside counsel when necessary and appropriate
  • Meet with relevant business partners, coordinate schedules to meet deadlines, maintain calendars
  • Perform other related duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate
  • Assist with compliance investigations as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent), Law Degree and 1 year experience
  • Licensed (or about to become licensed) to practice law in one or more jurisdictions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify underlying issues in complex situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, organize time, meet deadlines and deal with highly confidential information
  • Ability to make decisions and justify legal recommendations
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Customer service oriented and a positive attitude
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
