Assistant Counsel

Overview:

Exciting opportunity to join a legal department at a growing commercial stage specialty pharmaceutical company in Washington, DC. Make a difference by providing litigation, compliance and corporate legal support, including but not limited to assisting with sophisticated intellectual property and other litigation matters, assisting with Compliance matters, including drafting policies and providing compliance training, and maintaining legal department files. The Assistant Counsel will be responsible for assisting the Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary, and the Head of Compliance, by performing both key day-to-day functions and special projects primarily related to litigation, compliance, as well as general Legal Department administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure high quality legal advice to the company
  • Gather, organize and store information relevant to ongoing litigation
  • Meeting with relevant stakeholders, coordinate schedules to meet deadlines, maintain calendars
  • Assist with researching, drafting and management of corporate compliance policies
  • Ensure company compliance with legal policies, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Work with outside counsel when necessary and appropriate
  • Identify potential legal risks to the company
  • Willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and learn every day
  • Maintain the company's legal files including a library of pre-approved form documents, templates, and historical documents; add or revise material as needed
  • Provide support for litigation and regulatory-related matters
  • Perform other related duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent), Law Degree and 1 - 2 years' experience
  • Licensed (or about to become licensed in 2018) to practice law in one or more jurisdictions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify underlying issues in complex situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, organize time, meet deadlines and deal with highly confidential information
  • Ability to make decisions and justify legal recommendations
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Customer service oriented and a positive attitude
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
